Russia extends counter sanctions until December 31, 2022

MOSCOW, Sep 20 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to prolong counter measures against Western sanctions until December 31, 2022, according to a relevant document released on the state portal for legal information on Monday.

“To prolong from January 1 till December 31, 2022 retaliatory special economic measures envisaged by the Russian presidential decree dated August 6, 2014,” the document said.

In 2014, relations between Russia and the West deteriorated to their worse since the Cold War due to a military conflict in Ukraine. The West introduced sanctions against some Russian individuals and firms and further against the energy and banking sectors. In response, Russia prohibited food imports from some countries, including the U.S., the E.U., Canada, Australia, and Norway.
